What Software do you Prefer?

We primarily use Homesite 5 where I work and we're in the mood for fresh software as Homesite has not seen an update in years. We considered Dreamweaver, but we're not a fan of it. I DESPISE Frontpage!

We handcode almost entirely in PHP, so we need something that is PHP-friendly. We want editors that color-code our lines to aid in spotting syntax errors and missing characters. I personally use snippets, macros, and enjoy being able to indent multiple lines at the same time.

Can anyone recommend some newer software packages?

That looks nice, though it seems to be $59.
That being said, Ill stick with notepad++, it's light, customizable, and gets the job done.

Ugh, it's probably the most disgusting editor I've ever come across. :P I don't understand why people recommend it.

Anyway, I personally use phpDesigner (http://www.mpsoftware.dk). I've never... paid for it, but it's the best thing I've ever used in terms of editors.

You shouldn't have to have DirectX9 to edit text.

This IDE might be overkill, but you could have a peek at it: http://aptana.com/

if you're looking for team based software, have a look at the editor from nusphere. I couldn't get used to it, but its a really nice software package. personally, i use dreamweaver, i've used it since i first started doing sites, so i'm used to it, and i really like having the built in ftp client.
